No Swimming Norman Rockwell Tribute

Norman Rockwell was a 20th Century American painter most famous for the cover illustrations of everyday life he created for The Saturday Evening Post magazine over nearly five decades. The ” No Swimming” piece was my partners favourite. He has always wanted to see the original – I couldn’t give him that of course but figured the next best thing would be to bring it to life by painting my own tribute.

What the boys were running from was a anyones guess for a long time until it was revealed by one of the subjects that they were running from bees. Many people thought it might have been from an angry neighbour. Well that’s what I thought too as it brought back memories of when the kids from our street, dog in tow, would head bush to swim in the local weir. More often than not we would get caught crossing the cranky old mans property and would make our escape past long reeds of grass and over barbed wire fences.
